Simone Biles is golden again. The Olympic champion took home another gold medal at the 2024 Paris games on Saturday, this time for the gymnastics vault final. She scored an impressive average total score of 15.3 for her two vaults, the first of which was the Yurchenko double pike, also known as the Biles 2, named after her.
The win marked her third gold medal of the Paris Olympics and the seventh Olympic gold medal of her career, further cementing her status as the most decorated American gymnast of all time.
Simone wasn’t the only member of Team USA to make the podium. Her teammate, Jade Carey, won the bronze for her vault performance with a score of 14.466. Jade was just half a point behind Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who scored the silver. As they took the podium, they were cheered on by lots of celebrities in the stands, including John Travolta, Allyson Felix, Flavor Flav, Bobby Flay, Octavia Spencer, and Billie Jean King.
Simone’s parents, Nellie and Ron Biles, were also there for the big moment, as were Simone and Jade’s teammates, Jordan Chiles, Haleigh Bryant, and Suni Lee. Suni will be competing in her own Olympic final on Sunday in the uneven bars, and she and Simone will both have their balance beam final on Monday. Simone and Jordan will compete in the floor final later that day.
Simone spoke to reporters following her individual all-around gold on Thursday, and she shared the inspiration behind the GOAT necklace she rocked after her win. “My GOAT necklace is just kind of an ode because the people love it, and then some people hate it, so it’s like the best of both worlds.
And I was like, okay, if it goes well, we’ll wear the GOAT necklace. I know people will go crazy over it, but at the end of the day, it is crazy that I am in the conversation of greatest of all athletes because I just still think I’m Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that loves to flip.”
