Sha’Carri Richardson’s Triumphant Return: A Comeback 3 Years After Suspension

Sha’Carri Richardson is making an epic comeback at the 2024 Paris Olympics, three years after being suspended before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she tested positive for marijuana. The Team USA track and field star officially steps out for her long-awaited debut and gives a showstopping performance during the first round of the women’s 100m sprint.

Sha’Carri comes out on top with a time of 10.94 seconds. She now qualifies for the 100-meter semifinals on August 3rd, where she could become the first American woman to win gold in the event during its finals on the same day since Gail Devers won in 1996.

While Sha’Carri sets the track on fire with her athletic skills, her fashion is also turning heads. For the heat, the 24-year-old dons a lavender pinstriped ensemble, a ponytail, and opts for long, colorful stiletto nails because, like many athletes competing in France, she loves winning in style. The runner has previously shared that the inspiration behind her outfits and vibrant nails comes from the late Florence Griffith Joyner.

A very popular American track and field athlete in the 80s. As she told the Associated Press in an interview back in 2021, “FloJo came to the track and knew she was going to dominate. The way she did that was graceful. I always liked that. If the amazing FloJo had long nails, there is no excuse why I couldn’t have long nails.”

But less than a month later, Sha’Carri was not selected for the roster of athletes set to compete in Japan despite winning the 100-meter race during the Olympic trials. She was suspended after testing positive for THC, which violated the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code. Hours after the news broke, Sha’Carri opened up about her actions and gave insight into her decision during an interview on Today.
