One group won’t receive an SSA check on Wednesday — Bad news if you are on this list

With the past weekend’s Fourth of July celebrations, you decided to treat yourself to a few extra goodies from the parades and festivals, especially with SSA payments expected on Wednesday. Well, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are on this list, you are most likely part of the one group that will not be receiving a check on Wednesday.
The Social Security Administration matters
The Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits more than 70 million Americans each month by distributing Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. The first provides additional income to retirees, survivors of workers, and people with disabilities. The latter provides for the disabled or people with limited resources. The goal of the federal agency’s benefits is to ensure that these citizens have a basic level of income security and reduce the financial implications of various life events.
Some requirements have to be met to be deemed eligible for Social Security and SSI benefits, but once you’re in, it should be smooth sailing from there on (if you keep your personal information up to date!). To ensure that beneficiaries receive their benefits promptly, the SSA utilizes a payment schedule to distribute the benefits. The bad news is, that one group of people will not be receiving checks this coming Wednesday.
This group of people will not be receiving an SSA check
Social Security benefits are normally distributed on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of the month, and SSI benefits are normally distributed on the first of each month. If you only receive SSI benefits, it means you will not be receiving an SSA check this coming Wednesday. However, if you qualify for Social Security benefits, you will receive an SSA check if you are on this list
You will receive a check on Wednesday if you are on this list
- You are a retiree, survivor, or person with a disability
- You started claiming Social Security after May 1997
- Your birthday falls between the 1st and the 10th of any given month
According to the SSA, if you did not receive your payment on time, you should wait at least three business days before contacting the agency for assistance. If you keep your personal information up to date, there should be no reason for a delay in payment.
Beneficiaries can expect their next check on this date
Odds are good that you will receive SSI benefits if you have limited income or resources (less than $2,019 per month), you are aged 65 or older, you are blind or have a qualifying disability, or you have a child with a qualifying disability. According to the SSA, the SSI maximum payment for individuals is $967, and for couples, it is $1,450.
The following factors could affect your SSI amount:
- Income from work and non-work sources
- For every $2 earned from work, your SSI decreases by $1
- For every $1 earned from non-work, your SSI decreases by $1
- Your living circumstances
- Living with someone else without contributing financially will decrease your SSI by up to $342.33
According to the Social Security payment schedule, if you are an SSI beneficiary, you will only be receiving your next payment on August 1, 2025.
As you await your next check from the SSA, make sure that you understand how and when benefits are distributed. Understanding all the guidelines will help you in planning your monthly budget accordingly. There are, of course, a handful of people who benefit from both Social Security and SSI benefits. In such a case, make sure to check out these unknown loopholes that will increase your monthly payments, and do not worry, they are legal.
